In fact, the region’s vineyards are some of the most coveted in the valley. The Nickel & Nickel winery, founded in 1997 but born from a tradition of exceptional winemaking, is devoted to creating wines that articulate the singular expressions of the vineyards in Oakville and beyond. Established by the partners of Far Niente, Nickel & Nickel is based on a philosophy of producing 100 percent varietal, single-vineyard wines that best express the distinct personality of each vineyard. The winery’s current releases include Napa Valley Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as Russian River Valley Chardonnay, Syrah and Zinfandel

Thursday Evening Lecture: The Portrait Gone to Pieces: The Cubist Era in Paris

6 p.m. Meadows Museum (SMU), 5900 Bishop Boulevard, University Park

Paloma Alarcó, Curator of Modern Paintings, Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid

When Diego Rivera arrived in Paris, the innovative features of Cubist portraits not only brought a complete transformation to the genre but also gave new answers to questions concerning modern identity. In the realm of portraiture, the progressive abstraction of the Cubist idiom gradually imposed itself over the traditional aim of the portrait. Like the reflection in a broken mirror, background and figure, interior and exterior, ceased to be separate elements; painting became a complex puzzle to be solved in the viewer’s gaze. Free; advanced registration is not required. Please call 214.768.4677 for more information. In the Bob and Jean Smith Auditorium.

Tattooed Millionaires / Rockett Queen

8 p.m.  Trees , 2709 Elm Street, Dallas

$10 – $18, 8 p.m. Pocket Sandwich Theatre, 5400 East Mockingbird Lane, Dallas

An ingenious comedy/thriller from the author of Rosemary’s Baby and The Stepford Wives. Sidney Bruhl is a once-successful playwright whose last several productions have flopped at the box office. He receives a script by a novice writer for a stage thriller entitled Deathtrap. The script is brilliant and Bruhl concocts a murder plot whereby he will offer to help rewrite the script, but will instead kill the novice and pass the play off as his own. The plan spirals out of control, with many thrills (and laughs) along the way.

One of the many critical raves about the play stated: “Two-thirds a thriller and one-third a devilishly clever comedy. Suspend your disbelief and be delighted. Scream a little. It’s good for you.” The show is rated PG-13 (adult situations, violence).
