Whether it’s romantic ballads “when love is in the air” or upbeat tunes for business types who need to decompress, Erik says “the room isn’t about me, it’s about the people who inhabit it.” Nevertheless, the Library Bar wouldn’t be the same without its main man. Erik holds degrees from Yale College (B.A.), Washington State University (M.A.), and he conducted doctoral studies at the University of North Texas. He has performed concerts in many of the major cities and played with four orchestras.

My Sister in This House Pay-what-You-can Preview

8pm @ The Bath House Cultural Center

My Sister in This House, which often echoes Jean Genet’s The Maids, is based on an actual incident that took place in the French town of Le Mans, France in the early 1930s. It centers on the lives of Christine and Lea, two servant sisters attached to the Danzard household. The Danzards’, mother and daughter, are models of petit bourgeois idleness and severity. While suffocating under the weight of the Danzards’ authority and the rigid lines of class distinction, Christine and Lea have only each other to cling to. This pressure cooker atmosphere – part psychological study and part thriller – results in a haunting and stunning emotional explosion.

Indie music fans will enjoy spreading their blankets on the lawn to hear local favorites including David Garza, Will Sexton, Jimmy Lafave and many more perform with the Dallas skyline as their backdrop.

Doors open Thursdays at 7:30 PM with the concert beginning at 8:30 PM. Tickets and a complete concert lineup are available at www.swankpresents.com

Dustin Diamond

8:30pm @ Hyenas Comedy Club

Dustin Neil Diamond was named after singer Neil Diamond who he is related to on his father’s side (he is not, however, related to Mike D of the Beastie Boys). He was born in San Jose, California, but he graduated from Zion High School in Anaheim. Diamond has kept busy after the popular teenager sitcom, Saved By The Bell, was canceled. He has been featured on many shows, and he also participated in a celebrity boxing contest that was televised, as well as in professional wrestling matches, and on The Weakest Link. Diamond is currently a stand-up comedian and bass player in the band “Salty the Pocketknife.” He has plans to write a book about his experiences growing up a child actor.

Many years ago Henderson wasn’t the best place to be seen, the safest place, or an ideal place to go out – but times have changed. Now there are so many bars, restaurants, cool shops and the city is doing a great job in making it a safer place.

One spot that is always interesting is ‘The Slip Inn.’

This is NOT by any means your usual uptown bar. If you have never even seen the Slip Inn, you aren’t the only one. It is a bit hidden and almost all the way down Henderson. It is located next to a convenience store, there are no windows, no surrounding bars. As you can see in the picture, it isn’t you’re usual looking bar. You will usually see a few cop cars outside and and open sign. Music is always good and the drinks are cheap! I even read a review where someone complained the drinks were too strong (why would you complain about a too strong drink?) There is a large diversity of people. You might get weird looks if you were super nice clothes as if you were going to uptown bars.  Even if its not your type of scene, I would just go once to say you’ve been there!

The next spot has been around just at a year. It’s Barcadia.

Do you love to drink? Love to play games? This is the perfect spot for you. They have games such as Asteroids, Defenders, Street Fighter, Pac Man, Star Wars and more!  Along with drinks and games they also serve good bar food! They have salads, desserts, sandwiches, appetizers, and even have a brunch from 11am-3pm.  If you pass by on any given the night, the patio is full of people enjoying the weather and the scene (they even have an oversized Jenga to play!)  It’s super easy to get quarters from the bar or even order quarters off your credit card tab.
