Hacienda on Henderson – GRAND OPENING PARTY

haciendaIt’s about that time – Time to celebrate our Grand Opening! We have spent the last 6 weeks listening to your feedback and your comments and we have taken each to heart. We have worked non-stop to position our menu and our food to exactly what you have been asking for – we are now ready to show it off – the new menu, new sauces, new seasonings and new drinks – ALL READY TO GO! Please join us on September 29th beginning at 5pm for our GRAND OPENING FIESTA!

Hacienda on Henderson:

The Hacienda on Henderson offers a unique, casual dining experience inside a newly restored 1940’s Henderson Avenue home. The creation of local restaurant and bar entrepreneurs’ Pat Tetrick, Miles Zuniga, and Chris Faulkner, Hacienda features a mix of traditional Tex-Mex and authentic Zuniga family recipes, served up in a high-energy environment. Executive Chef Paul Delgado promises an extensive menu of both standard and culinary left turns made with the best fresh, locally grown ingredients. The idea behind Hacienda is that it’s everyone’s home, and that’s the kind of warm, friendly experience you should expect here. If it’s great ambiance and a refreshing drink you’re after, then check out the beautiful 2,000 sq. ft. covered patio, complete with a custom Mexican fountain and lush hanging plants. It’s on the patio where you’ll find the best place to enjoy one of our many specialty drinks or soon-to-be famous house-infused frozen margaritas. Come early to eat, stay late to drink, enjoy watching your favorite sports at the top-shelf tequila bar, or just come to relax on the patio. The Hacienda on Henderson…tu otra casa.

6-8pm @ Vino 100

Please join the Young Artist Association of Dallas for a fun night of wine and art to benefit The Stewpot of Dallas.

On display will be the paintings of Edgar Cardoze and Page Goss, and the photographs of Christina Kearney, Stuart Palley, Jordan Chlapecka, and myself. Free hors d’oeuvres and half-priced wine during the first hour.

80% of the proceeds will benefit the art program at The Stewpot, which after volunteering for, I can say is a remarkable program that can change lives. For 6 hours, 3 days of week, The Stewpot opens its doors to the homeless community of Dallas to provide free art classes to whoever wishes to participate. These art classes act as a form of therapy, and provide the opportunity to work for an income. Each participant has the choice of his/her personal medium–whether it be from acrylics to oils to jewelry making. Then, the artist can choose to put the artwork up for sale at The Stewpot, with 90% of the proceeds given to that artist. This creates an exciting environment filled with creativity, inspiration, and hope. Our goal is to sell our artwork to raise as much money as possible to provide the program with more freedom and the ability to continue to make such a positive impact on the Dallas community.

Everyday Practice of Science: Where Intuition and Passion Meet Objectivity and Logic -Dallas Philosopher’s Forum

7:30pm @ Chic from Barcelona – $4

Fred Grinnell, Ph.D., Professor of Cell Biology and Founder of the Program in Ethics and Science, UT Southwestern Medical Center. Author of The Scientific Attitude.

Scientific facts often are so complicated that only experts can appreciate the details. However, the underlying practice that gives rise to such facts should be understandable by everyone interested in science. In my new book Everyday Practice of Science, I offer a plain-talk account and demystification of science as world view and life’s work. I describe how researchers bring their own interests and passions to their work. The interplay between these interests and passions becomes the dynamic of the research community. Exploring this dynamic clarifies the philosophical underpinnings and challenges inherent to the scientific knowledge-building project.

Students from SMU’s Human Rights Program are going to Rwanda this August and need your help in bringing more than 100 pairs of TOMS shoes to orphans and street children we will be visiting. The children are located at two homes, Les Enfants de Dieu and Hope Made Real. Both organizations serve to shelter and educate these children to better prepare them for a successful future. However, in areas as poverty stricken as Rwanda many times it is difficult even to provide the basics. That’s where we, and you, come in. By providing well-made, sturdy shoes for these children to wear, together we can play an integral role in getting these deserving kids back on their feet.

As an added benefit, by using TOMS shoes in this endeavor, not only will 100+ Rwandan children receive shoes, but an additional 100+ children in need will receive shoes around the world. One for One.

Come enjoy a night of fun and fundraising at Times Ten Cellars in Lakewood and support this worthy cause. All donations will be used to purchase TOMS shoes to be donated to Rwandan orphans and street children. See you there!

$25 – 21 and up (includes one glass of wine and appetizers)
