From September 21 – 27, 2009, Bread Winners Café & Bakery will team up with CancerCare for the sixth annualCupcakes for a Cause, supporting children affected by a cancer diagnosis.

Bread Winners Café & Bakery will sell specially decorated cupcakes at all three locations and donate a portion of the proceeds from their sale to CancerCare for Kids, a program that provides free, professional support services to children affected by cancer.


Autumn at the Arboretum

The Great Pumpkin Festival – Everyday from 9am – 5pm

This fall festival, which runs September 19th through November 1st, boasts of more than 150,000 fall blooming flowers including chrysanthemums, salvia, coleus, ornamental grasses and impatiens. Always a favorite spot for the family photo, The Tom Thumb Pumpkin Patch and the gardens are filled with over 25,000 decorative pumpkins and gourds. Also in the Pecan Grove is the walk-through 15′ pumpkin house constructed out of the finest pumpkins in the patch and a 10′ pumpkin topiary decorated with orange marigolds.

Third Annual District Wide College Fair

5:30 pm @ The Dallas Convention Center, 650 South Griffin Street

The Dallas Independent School District invites all 12th grade students and their parents to attend the third annual Districtwide College Fair Wednesday, September 23, at 5:30 p.m., at the Dallas Convention Center, Hall D, 650 S. Griffin Street.

The free fair will provide students and parents the opportunity to meet college and university representatives.

To pre-register, students must see their school counselor. Pre-registration deadline is Wednesday, September 9. Registration will also be available on-site.

Transportation to and from the Convention Center will be provided.


Wellness Wednesdays at the Westin

Join to transition mind, body, and spirit with inspirational yoga and pilates classes. Every Wednesday there will be a complimentary one hour all levels class, led by a rockstar instructor from TELOS Fitness Center. Class will take place at the Westin Hotel’s newly renovated poolside area, on the 4th floor. We can’t think of a better way to take a break mid week and relax and rejuvenate!

The class alternates weekly between yoga and Pilates. It is sponsored by lululemon athletica.


Free poolside movie — The Three Amigos

With blankets in tow, film buffs can watch their favorite movies under the stars on a giant movie screen at the Belmont Hotel pool with the Dallas skyline as the backdrop.

Free admission and open to the public. Weather permitting, doors open at 7 p.m. and movies will begin at sundown. Blankets allowed. No lawn chairs, coolers or outside food or beverage. Cash bar and food available for purchase. Ride a bike to the Belmont Hotel on poolside movie nights and receive $1 off beers the entire evening.

The Three Amigos is presented in honor of International People Skills Day.


Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary Hi-Def Event

NCM Fathom, Warner Home Video, and Turner Classic Movies present The Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary Hi-Def event, featuring the first ever High Definition presentation in movie theatres nationwide of The Wizard of Oz.

This one-night event will take place in more than 440 movie theatres nationwide on Wednesday, September 23rd at 7 p.m. (local time). In addition to the feature presentation of The Wizard of Oz, this exclusive event will include a special introduction by Robert Osborne, a classic film historian and host of Turner Classic Movies, followed by “To Oz! The Making of a Classic,” a look into how L. Frank Baum’s classic novel was transformed into one of the most beloved films of all time including archival interviews, behind-the-scenes footage and rare musical outtakes.

Also featured will be an exclusive clip of the Scarecrow, Ray Bolger, dancing in high-definition for the very first time.
